Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, but Jones insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters present at the game as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just showed the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”
